TRANSFORMING CONTAMINATED GROUNDWATER INTO A SAFE CONSTRUCTION RESOURCE

Unsuitability of Groundwater for Construction

Elite Housing Private Limited planned to develop a premium residential apartment complex in Tondiarpet, Chennai. Although groundwater was abundantly available at shallow depths, it was found to be unsuitable for construction due to petroleum hydrocarbon contamination.

Installation and Operation of Groundwater Treatment Plant

To address this challenge, Stratus Environmental designed and installed a Pump-and-Treat Groundwater Treatment Plant (GTP) at the site. Comprehensive water quality analysis was carried out for key parameters such as Gasoline Range Organics (GRO), Diesel Range Organics (DRO), BTEX, Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH), and IS 10500 standard parameters—both before and after treatment.

Outcome:

The custom-engineered treatment system demonstrated excellent efficiency in removing petroleum hydrocarbons, making the treated groundwater safe and suitable for construction activities.
